Curling Calendar Update: October month end 2013

Curling Calendar Update:  October month end 2013

There has been lots of curling action out on the ice in the last two weeks.

From October 17-20, a field of 12 teams played for the title in the Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel.  Congratulations to Debbie McCormick and her team mates for having made it to the semi-finals.

From October 18-21, 32 of the best men’s teams in the world played in the Canad Inns Prairie Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.  Team Jacobs and team Morris advanced to the quarter-finals, while team Virtue made it to the semi-final round before losing to event champion Mike McEwen.

From October 24-27, another strong men’s field gathered in Brooks, Alberta, for the Cactus Pheasant Classic.  Among the quarter-finalists were Goldline ambassadors team Laycock and team Edin.  The teams skipped by Kevin Martin and Thomas Ulsrud made it as far as the semi-finals.  And the Swiss team (and Goldline ambassadors) skipped by Sven Michel made it into the championship final, before losing to ultimate winner Mike McEwen.  Congratulations to all our ambassadors on these great results.

Meanwhile, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 32 women’s teams took part in the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Women’s Curling Classic.  Crystal Webster and her team mates played well to make it to the quarter-final round of play.  A huge congratulations goes to our own Goldline ambassadors, team Jennifer Jones, who won the overall title!

Further east, the Challenge Chateau Cartier du Gatineau was held in Gatineau, Quebec. It was an all Goldline final: in the end, the team skipped by Brad Gushue won over the team skipped by Rob Rumfeldt.  Great play gentlemen!

On the women’s side of the draw, Rachel Homan and her team made it as far as the semi-finals before losing to event winner Lisa Farnell.  Good work ladies!
